European champions Chelsea host Crystal Palace at the Stamford Bridge in a fixture from the first round of the Premier League. It’s time to take a look at this game within our free online soccer betting tips.
After winning the Champions League at the end of the last season now Chelsea have another goal in mind – to win the Premier League again. The Blues made an amazingly good decision by hiring Thomas Tuchel and now the German manager gives them hope of a successful era that is ahead.
So far this summer Chelsea didn’t do any business on the transfer market, but they have enough time to change this. Their marquee signing could be the Norwegian super star Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund. It was understood both clubs are negotiating right now although it’s still not clear if a deal would be made. But one thing is for sure – if Chelsea manage to sign Haaland this would be one of the biggest deals of the summer.
According to some other rumours, Chelsea are eyeing the English captain Harry Kane as an alternative to Erling Haaland. The Blues are ready to offer their striker Tammy Abraham as a part of the deal. Right now Tottenham Hotspur seem reluctant to sell their star player, but things could become different if Kane himself start pushing for a move.
Meanwhile the Londoners already said goodbye to few players. The French veteran Olivier Giroud was sold to AC Milan while the centre-back Fikayo Tomori moved in the same direction. Victor Moses also quit Chelsea for good and he will continue his career in the Russian side Spartak Moscow. As we mentioned, Tammy Abraham is another player who could leave Stamford Bridge, but the club is still looking for the best possible solution regarding him.
One of the best things about Chelsea is their terrific balance between experienced and younger players. On his disposal Thomas Tuchel has veterans like Thiago Silva, Cesar Azpilicueta, N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Marcos Alonso, but he also has some great young stars like Kai Havertz, Mason Mount, Reece James, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Christian Pulisic. This gives Tuchel some great feeling about the future because right now he can start building Chelsea’s backbone for the future years. He could really create an era there.
One of Tuchel’s biggest challenges will be getting more from Timo Werner. The German international arrived in London with the reputation of one of the best strikers in the Bundesliga, but he scored just 6 goals in his first Premier League season. Surely Werner could do much better in his second season. He’s a talented striker who knows how to score, but he was a little bit unconvincing in his debut campaign in England. Now it’s his time to prove he’s much better than this.
Werner’s compatriot Kai Havertz could be one of Chelsea’s biggest stars in the 2021/22 season. Just like Timo, Havertz had some average performances in his first campaign, but he finished on a high note scoring the winner in the Champions League final. This was a memorable experience for the young German forward – something that could give him a much bigger confidence for the next campaign. That’s exactly what Havertz needs the most – confidence. His qualities are not something you can doubt.
Crystal Palace start the 2021/22 season with a new manager on board. This is Arsenal’s legend Patrick Vieira who arrives for his first job in England as a head coach. So far Vieira was managing Nice in the Ligue 1, but now he decided to make a new step in his managerial career. For all Premier League fans it would be exciting to see the Frenchman coaching in England – he was one of the best midfielders in the country while playing.
This summer Crystal Palace already made some signings. The club decided to pay 23 million euro to Chelsea for the 21-years old centre-back Marc Guehi who’s clearly an investment for the future. Meanwhile Palace signed another young player as they paid 9 million euro to Reading for the 19-years old attacking midfielder Michael Olise. This is a good transfer business by the Londoners as they are trying to lower the age of their squad. Guehi and Olise are two players who could be important for the club’s future.
Some players left Crystal Palace as well. Andros Townsend, Patrick van Aaanholt, Mamadou Sakho, James McCarthy, Wayne Hennesey, Nathaniel Clyne and Gary Cahill all left the Selhurst Park as free agents. Except of Townsend, all these players are at least 30-years old which should tell you again what Palace are trying to do here.
The biggest goal in front of the new manager Patrick Vieira is to do what his predecessor Roy Hodgson managed to do – keep the team out of relegation. Some might say hiring Vieira was a little bit of a risky move from Crystal Palace, but at the same time the fans are excited to see such a legend coaching their favorite team. Vieira is a young manager and surely he deserves a chance to prove his qualities.
Patrick Vieira already enjoyed his first win at Crystal Palace. The Eagles faced Walsall in a friendly game and celebrated a 1-0 win. One of the team’s stars Wilfried Zaha scored the only goal in the game. It’s just a friendly game of course, but it’s a good feeling to start your summer friendlies in a positive way.
